Adventure Elopement

Dream Locations in Michigan

There’s something about being an elopement photographer that just always stays exciting. From the moment I started capturing love stories in Michigan’s wilderness, I knew I had found something I truly loved and wanted to pour my heart into. This isn’t just a list of pretty places, these are locations I genuinely love and dream about, placed I’ve hiked and explored and thought “if I could just put two lovers here”.

So I made a list, and I’m inviting the right couples to help me check them off.

Places that set my soul on fire…

we love a good wedding, but…

An adventure elopement might be for you if..

  1. you want to ditch the traditional and explore somewhere extraordinary

  2. you value experience over expectations

  3. you prefer the wild over the ballroom

  4. spending the day in the wilderness excites and inspires you

  5. you want something intimate, adventurous, and entirely on your own terms.

  6. trees, waterfalls and shorelines are more your style

The List

Hartwick Pines State Park

While beautiful year-round, Hartwick Pines takes on a special charm in the winter. Snowshoeing through old-growth forests to exchange vows with a lantern-lit setting in the evening is an experience that feels truly magical - quiet, unhurried, and completely removed from the world for the moment.

Grayling, Michigan | winter

Sugarloaf Mountain

A one-mile trail up to the top leads you to panoramic views of Lake Superior and the surrounding wilderness. In fall, the foliage is breathtaking. In winter, the silence is unlike anything else. Either way, you’re standing at the top of somewhere that earns every step of the climb.

Marquette, Michigan | winter or fall

Lake of Clouds | Porcupine Mountains

A 1.5 mile out-and-back trail that rewards you with sweeping views over ancient forest and the vast Lake of Clouds often featuring dramatic fog at sunrise. It’s a magical experience, where you can then catch sunset later on the Escarpment trail.

Ontonagon, Michigan | summer @ sunrise

Upper Peninsula | summer or fall

Keweenaw Peninsula

Remote, rugged, and genuinely untamed. The Keweenaw offers everything from lush forests, dramatic cliff shorelines, flowing waterfalls, and views of Lake Superior. A true adventure for couples who want to explore where some people never get to go.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes

Dramatic dunes, wide open sky, vast lake and a landscape that feels like another world. Silver Lake is one of the few places in Michigan you can explore by ATV or horseback (depending on the season) and for the right couple, that changes everything. Imagine exchanging vows with the dunes around you, then riding off in them together at sunset. That’s the kind of day I want to document.

Mears, Michigan

Urban Michigan

Not every love story belongs in the wilderness - some are written in the skylines, street scapes, and energy of a city that feels like home. Michigan’s city landscapes offer a different kind of wild; raw, creative, and completely their own. Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids each hold hidden gems waiting for the right couples to bring them to life.

Beyond Michigan

Hocking Hills

Gorges, mossy caves, and waterfalls all tucked into the Appalachian foothills. Hocking Hills has a quiet, primeval magic that I’ve been dreaming of for years each time I visit. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel small, but also how bold you are in the world.

Ohio | spring or fall

Apostle Islands

Sea caves carved into sandstone cliffs along the shores of Lake Superior. In summer, kayaking to a ceremoy spot feels like a dream. In the winter, the ice caves are stunning. Either way - this has been on my list for a long time.

Wisconsin | summer or winter

A few things you might be wondering…

  • yes - everything that comes with a regular adventure elopement collection applies here including planning support, location scouting/guidance, your full gallery and album. The only difference is the 25% discount for booking a dream location.

  • My regular elopement collections cover travel to anywhere in Michigan - it doesn’t have to be on this list to book an adventure elopement. Head over to my elopement page to see everything that’s included.
